This is why search engines like Google, Baidu, Ask, AOL, or Yahoo! Bing, develop complex algorithms, or mathematical instructions, telling them its servants how to deal with an assigned task.

Google’s algorithm, the most used search engine in the world, ranked number one in the Alexa index of the most visited websites on the planet, with an estimated 12 billion monthly searches is called PageRank and was designed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of the company, as students of the department of computer science at Stanford. The Fourier transform for images

Thanks to the researchers MIT the field of video and images could soon receive a major technological innovation: the new discovery would speed up the compression of images by applying an algorithm based on Fourier transform. The technique has been developed by researchers Dina Kataba and Piotr Indyki with students Eric Price and Haitham Hassanieh.

Using lasers to encode information in our hard drives

It may be possible to improve the storage of information in our computers through an ingenious device for transferring light energy in a mechanical system. A team of researchers at Yale University, USA, has developed a device to “write” and “read” the information with the laser light. The results of this work, published in Nature Nanotechnology, could reduce the energy consumption of hard drives while making them very reliable.

When we talk about memory and information storage hard drives, the parameters determining the value of new technology are mainly: the stability of stored information, and energy storage density. Many studies seek to develop new devices competitive on these three parameters. The devices developed characters generally have in common.
